No DVD Drive? No Problem!

Here's another reason why I'm not missing Windows XP on my Eee PC: I just discovered that the Eee's bundled media player (SMPlayer) can play DVD movies even without a physical DVD drive. This can be done by copying the contents of a DVD to a removable media (either a large capacity flashdrive or an external hard drive.

Once the files are on the removable media, fire up SMPlayer then from the main menu, choose Open --> DVD from folder... then point it to where you copied the files from your DVD and viola! DVD playback on the Eee without the drive!

there's a question i've been meaning to ask you for a long time now, and it's an idiot question but i don't care. is there a solitaire game available (preferably free) that will run on the linux os of eee? if you know of any, can you point me in the right direction? because, believe it or not, i'm helping someone decide on getting the eee for the sole purpose of being able to play solitaire anytime, anywhere. and i can't help but think the price for a legal windows xp upgrade (which has this much needed solitaire) is not practical.

plus, what's your experience in using open office to edit ms office files? i heard there may be compatibility problems esp on formats.

I think solitaire is pre-loaded on the Eee but let me check on this -- my Eee is at home at the moment and I'm using my MacBook today. :)

As for MS Office vs. OpenOffice compatibility, there *will* be problems in terms on formatting and that problem is magnified when particular documents gets ping-pong'ed between the two office suites.
